EUROSAF 2020 European Mixed Keelboat Championships – Captain Fundraiser

One of our very own captains, Conor Fogerty, along with his sailing partner Susan Glenny, will be representing Ireland in the EUROSAF 2020 European Mixed Keelboat Championships.

Despite all qualifying events being cancelled due to Covid-19, the duo are powering through with endorsements from Irish Sailing and other sponsors. Nonetheless, they are looking to increase their funding, in order to pay for insurance, entry fees and accommodation cost, amongst other things, through crowdfunding. If you would like to help to Conor and Susan’s endeavours, click here to donate.

Conor is an internationally renowned competitive sailor, having been voted the Irish Sailor of the Year in 2017, and competing in global offshore sailing events. Check out our exclusive interview with Conor last year about his many wins and working as a delivery captain: Where Are They Now: Conor Fogerty.

Shipping Rates

Yacht Shipping Rates

We can report this week that yacht shipping rates are finally stabilising after running for weeks at unprecedented and very high levels. The limited ability to move yachts on their own bottoms during the COVID19 crisis had limited client’s options with resulting shipping rates remaining high. We have seen examples of rates fluctuating and in some cases rising by more than 30% overnight.

Now more and more capacity is coming to the market, and we are seeing rates slow down and, in some cases, even reverse.

At Reliance Yacht Management we are monitoring shipping rates across the market. This allows us to make the best decisions on carriers and routes on behalf of our customers.

Nick Irving Reliance Yacht Management Founder says ‘seeing rates of Europe to Caribbean routes coming down will help all our fleet customers get back on track quicker and with many factories returning to production this week it all starts to point at normalising.’

With travel restrictions easing for professional yachtsmen, crewed deliveries are also normalising giving clients wider choices of options and budgets.

Our Reliance Yacht Management customers need to be decisive when we price Freight or Crewed rate as prices for shipping rates move really quickly and don’t hold.

No one really knows what the new normal is going to be. Reliance Yacht Management will continue as ever to strive for the best in yacht shipping and crewed deliveries.

Where Will You Spend Hurricane Season

If you own a yacht along the US Atlantic Seaboard or in the Caribbean then you should be asking yourself that question now. Planning is essential and especially with COVID 19 restrictions affecting so many areas.

Pleasure sailing is almost banned in the Caribbean and travel is severely restricted. Flights are hard to find and many islands impose 14 days quarantine. So what do you need to do?

What Reliance Yacht Management can do is advise you what is possible and put together a plan of action to get your boat safe. We have a worldwide network of local contacts in all the major yachting destinations.

If you plan to leave your yacht in place during the season but cannot travel to prepare it, contact Reliance Yacht Management. There is a good chance that we can provide a local service to prepare your yacht and monitor it during the season.

If you plan to move your yacht for the season contact Reliance Yacht Management for an assessment and delivery proposal.

It’s important to be proactive and to keep your yacht protected before the hurricane season.

We put together a short checklist;

  • Take a look at your insurance policy to see if there are geographical restrictions during the season and if you are required to follow a course of action in order to comply with the terms.
  • Check your marina’s policy for hurricanes. The time is now to learn if you need to vacate for the hurricane season.
  • Check all emergency equipment is working, such as radios, first aid kit, and flashlights. Make a list with each item’s location on board. You may need to give this document to others.
  • If you plan to move your boat, plan now. Book the delivery in good time.
  • If you are not going to move your boat, who will be looking after it?
  • Plan what will be removed from your yacht and stowed on board or ashore – sails, biminis, tenders etc,
  • Make an inventory of the property on your boat. Smart phones are excellent to record with photos or video.
  • Put all important legal documents including licenses, rental agreement, insurance policy, registration, in a secure container on board or ashore
